 Veniamin Belkin

Deceased:   November 8, 1951

Russian artist, painter, and graphic artist.

      

Veniamin Pavlovich Belkin was born in the Verkhoturye town of the Perm Province. He studied at A.P. Bolshakov’s School in Moscow (1904 — 1905), under Victor Borisov-Musatov and Charles-François-Prosper Guérin and Charles Kotte in Paris (1907 — 1909). He created the Pegasus panel for the Pushkin Square in Petrograd for the anniversary of revolution in 1918. In 1919 — 21 he designed sketches of plates for the Leningrad Porcelain Plant (The Victory of Workers, and some other works are well-known). Two post cards with the artist’s works printed by St. Evgenia's Community are also famous. 

He taught in the Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (Leningrad) from 1921 to 1923, in Architectural Engineering School (Leningrad) from 1924 to 1927 and again in the Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture from 1928 to 1946.

The artist was on friendly terms with the prominent poetess Anna Akhmatova from the early 1910s and it was reflected in the drawings that Veniamin Belkin made in her album.

Veniamin Belkin’s works are kept in the Russian Museum, the Yaroslavl Historical and Architecural Memorial Estate, the Perm Art Gallery, the Vologda Art Gallery, etc. Some of his paintings can be seen in art collections of Kazakhstan.
