Boris Berezovsky
Boris Abramovich Berezovsky was born in Moscow. He graduated from the Electronics and Computing Equipment Faculty of the Moscow Forestry Engineering Institute in 1967, and the Mechanical Mathematical Faculty of the Moscow State University in 1973.
Berezovsky took postgraduate courses in the Institute of Management Problems of the USSR Academy of Sciences, where he defended his master’s dissertation on the subject Multicriteria Optimization.
In 1968-1987 Boris worked as an engineer in Scientific Research Institute of Test Cars and Devices of the Ministry of Instrument Making of the USSR, in the Hydrometeorological Research Center of the USSR, as an engineer and then as a junior and senior research associate, and finally as the head of the laboratory at the Institute of Management Problems of the USSR Academy of Sciences.In 1983 he defended the doctoral dissertation on the subject Development of Theoretical Bases of Algorithmization of Taking Predesign Decisions and Their Application.
From 1991 he was a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, a member of the International Scientific Organization on the Decision-Making Theory, the founder of the International Scientific Fund.
Boris Berezovsky is the author of over 100 scientific research works and a number of monographs. He is the winner of the Lenin Komsomol Award— the highest state award for young scientists in the USSR.
From the 1989th he was actively engaged in business. Mr. Berezovsky was the founder and the largest shareholder of a number of leading Russian companies, such as LogoVAZ, AVVA, ORT, Sibneft, Rusal, etc. He was a co-owner of the TV-6 television company, The Kommersant, Nezavisimaya Newspaper, and Noviye Izvestia.
In 1992 he established the first private independent charity foundation Triumph in support of the Russian culture.
In 1975-1991 Beresovsky was a member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. He started politicizing actively from 1995.
From the autumn of 2000 Boris Berezovsky acted as a political opponent of Vladimir Putin, in whose presidential campaign he had participated on the side of Putin at the end of 1999 — beginning of 2000.
For the first time a criminal case against Boris Berezovsky was instigated by Yevgeny Primakov government in 1999. From September 20, 2001 he was wanted in the Russian Federation on charges of fraud, money laundering, and an attempt of forcible seizure of power. A warrant on his arrest was issued to the Interpol by Brazil on charges of fraud and money laundering through a football club. In addition, in 1999 Switzerland public prosecutor’s office launched an investigation against him on charges of fraud and money laundering. Same year Boris Berezovsky was refused entry into Switzerland. 
From September, 2003 Mr. Berezovsky was constantly living as a political refugee in Great Britain; he had a British passport with the name of Platon Elenin. The BBC news service specified that Platon is the name of the lead in the Oligarch movie. He was still a citizen of Russia. In 1996 he abandoned the citizenship of Israel.
In 2002 — 2008 Mr. Berezovsky transferred through offshore companies 320 000 pounds sterling to the British queen’s cousin, Prince Michael.
By the end of his life Berezovsky’s financial condition drastically worsened. Though in 2008 it was estimated at 1.3 billion dollars, after several lost trials he accumulated considerable debts, so he had to dismiss his assistants and almost all his bodyguards, offer for sale a few houses owned by him and some valuable property.
The dead body of Boris Berezovsky was found on March 23, 2013 in a locked-inside bathroom in the house belonging to his former wife Galina. The Forbes magazine reported that a few hours before his death Mr. Berezovsky gave an interview not for publication, in which he confessed he had lost the meaning of life and wanted to return to Russia. According to the Thames police department’s report, published on March 26 upon autopsy results, Berezovsky died of hanging, without any traces of fight revealed. According to The Guardian newspaper, the examination also revealed that Berezovsky had his rib fractured. The exact cause of his death still has not been found out.
