 Feodor Boborykin

Deceased:   May 26 1609

voivode, Russian commander

In heroic years of defending the country from the Polish-Lithuanian interventionists in 1606-1612, voivode Feodor Bobrykin and Prince Dmitry Pozharskiy headed the people’s volunteer corps. On February 24, 1609 the rebels won a victory over the troops of the Suzdal voivode Pleshcheev who took the side with Polish aggressors. In June 1609 the commander of the Polish armies Jan Sapega sent a large group under command of skilled military leader Lissovsky against Kineshma. The latter crushed the rebels, Feodor Boborykin was killed, and Kineshma was ruined. However, forces from Reshma and Yuryevts came soon to aid Kineshma volunteers. Fights went on for a few months, and in winter of 1609-1610 the Poles were totally defeated. Lissovsky with a small group managed to escape.

In memory of this heroic period in the history of Kineshma two stone chapels were built on the place of mass graves. They have remained till date.
