German anthropologists claim they have found a new species of human beings in South Siberia.
Scientists from Max Planck Institute of Anthropology performed genetic analysis of a finger bone, which belonged to a 5-7 year old child, who lived over 44 000 years ago. Analysis revealed that child’s DNA had only 50% similarity to DNA of Homo sapiens or Neanderthal man. Since DNA of creatures, belonging to same species should have over 95% similarity, researchers believe they found a new species of human beings.
Child bones were found in Denisov cave, located in South Siberia, by Russian archeologists in 2008. Scientists tend to think that “Denisov” men developed in parallel with Homo sapiens and Neanderthal men. Recent research shows that there were at least 7 different species of human beings, however, only Homo sapiens survived to date.
