Anna Samokhina Dies of Cancer

A bright film star of the 1990s, one of the most beautiful women of Russian cinema - Anna Samokhina - has died of cancer, aged 47.
Doctors could not save the actress: when the tumour was diagnosed, it was already too late to operate it. Anna spent her last days in one of Saint Petersburg hospices.
Charming Mercedes from The Prisoner of If Castle (1988) - that is what she will always remain in the memory of admirers of Russian cinema. That role became a successful debut for one of the most beautiful and enchanting women of the national cinematographer.
In the 1990s Anna Samokhina became a true godsend for scriptwriters and film directors. It seemed that the scenarios were written specially for her - hardly anybody else could have better portrayed those glamorous beauties in costume historical dramas.
