New Technology for 3-D Artists Created

Russian software development from iPi Soft company created first desktop system for motion capture.

So-called mocap technology, which animates characters in famous “Avatar” of James Cameron, is now available not only for movie-making majors, but for small motion-picture studios, freelancers and even amateurs. iPi Desktop Ìotion Capture is based upon a cheap and simple markerless motion capture technology and will become a decent alternative for existing systems, which cost around $10-100 thousand.

Developers consider markerless motion capture technology to be more attractive for 3D-animators, since it works with ordinary video cameras and doesn’t require expensive lighting systems.

iPi Desktop Ìotion Capture supports all main animation formats and is compatible with popular ÇD MAÕ/3D MAX Biped software. Free beta-version of the programme is available online for 30-day trial.
