Vladimir Gavrin, doctor of physical and mathematical sciences, received Skobeltsyn gold medal for outstanding contribution into solar neutrino studies and discovery of neutrino oscillations.
The scientist is employed in the Institute of Nuclear Research of Russian Academy of Sciences. Vladimir Gavrin performed a cycle of fundamental studies on gallium-germanium neutrino telescope. Results received showed that solar neutrino were insufficient in all energy ranges, which allowed concluding that neutrino oscillations existed.
Vladimir Gavrin is a world-famous outstanding researcher, who contributed in development of radio-chemical techniques for detecting solar neutrino, technologies for extracting individual atoms form large targets, and in construction of the first gallium-germanium neutrino telescope in the world.
