Intel Corporation to spend over $2 million on Russian science and education.

Intel Corporation is planning to spend about $2 million on Russian science and education development this year. Hence for the last eight years Intel has spent $10 mln for these purposes. Education and science project support is aimed at further development of educational systems worldwide and enters into Intels global strategy. Intels decision to extend its corporate academic program to Russia and some other CIS countries was announced by its CEO, Craig Barrett, during his first visit to Moscow in April 1997.
      Intels World Charitable Initiative Education for Future runs in Russia since 2002 with the support of Russian Federation Ministry of Science and Education. This program provides schoolteachers training in innovation methods of using computer technologies in teaching process. Intel assigns Russia over $1.2 mln for this program this year. More than 160 thousand teachers and students have already taken part in this program by now, this amount is expected to reach 200 thousand till the end of the year. In some Russian districts Novosibirsk Region, for example almost every schoolteacher has already taken the course. It should be mentioned that since 2004 Intel Education for Future Program runs in the Ukraine, where 10 thousand people have taken part in it, and 26 thousand teachers more will finish it till the end of 2005.
      The Corporation has an intention to launch a new educational program Technological business from theory to practice in Russia in the nearest future. This program is aimed at teaching business and innovation technologic enterprise development to engineers. For all abovementioned joint activities and research studies in programming technologies Intel is intended to assign over $500 thousand in 2005. Meanwhile Intel implements a joint charitable project Wizard together with Lobachevskiy Nizhiy Novgorod State University focused on training teachers for working with a new course Information Technologies in Russian and CIS regional higher educational establishments. Saint Petersburg State University of Aerospace Instrumentation also has a flourishing collaboration with Intel Corporation. For example, Saint Petersburg State University launched a project for new computing architecture for communication sphere.
      This year Intel brings to Russia another corporate program Studying with Intel. The program has financial support of $140 thousand including $10 thousand fellowship for Regional Centre for Information Technologies situated in Novosibirsk Region. The program to be launched in August is a joint project with Novosibirsk Region Governmental Education Board. 60 teachers of school and extended education will begin with an appropriate course in Novosibirsk followed by 1200 pupils studying in 30 educational departments of Regional Centre for Information Technologies during a period from September to December 2005. The goal of Studying with Intel program is to develop necessary skills for pupils future life, such as teamwork, distant work and cooperation with the help of computers and Internet.
      Intel educational programs authorities announces their decision to support All-Russian Contest Teacher of the Year which will be held in September. Intel Corporation supports this contest since 2002, founding some special awards for its winners, allowing Russian schoolteachers and pupils to access modern high technologies. Last autumn Intel was awarded a Certificate of Honour of Russian Federation Ministry of Science and Education For major contribution to Teacher of the Year - 2004 contest administration, teacher profession promotion and Russian teachers creative movement support. This year Intel Corporation assigns over $100 thousand for organizing contests selecting participants in Russia and some other CIS countries for World Overview for scholars creativity in science and technology - Intel ISEF. It is a unique international event for scholars of 8-13 years old ranked so high. This overview is an annual event covering all natural sciences in order to find talented children during their studying in schools and colleges and to support their research.
      Computer to Every Teacher contest among regions of Russian Federation was also organized by Intel with intention to create favourable conditions for teachers to buy personal computers and Internet connection. The winner is Kalinigrad Region.
