Famous designer and one of the first Soviet cosmonauts Konstatin Feoktistov passed away this weekend in Moscow. The cosmonaut was 83 years old.
Konstatin Feoktistov was born in Voronezh in 1926. He received higher education after the Great Patriotic War in Bauman State Technical University. After graduation the engineer was employed in various research institutions and designed spaceships.
In 1964 Feoktistov was invited to join the cosmonaut corps. He was the first non-military cosmonaut in the USSR, as well the the first and the only one consmonaut, who wasn’t the member of the Communist party.
Konstatin Feoktistov was the member of the crew, which performed the flight on first world multiseat spaceship “Voskhod” (Sunrise). All crewmembers weren’t wearing spaces suits during the flight. For this flight Feoktistov was awarded the title of the Hero of the Soviet Union.
After the flight Konstatin Feoktistov worked on new space ships – he developed “Soyuz” and “Progress” spaceships, as well as “Salut” and “Mir” orbital stations.
