Eminent Russian physicist, laureate of the Nobel Prize in Physics Vitaly Ginzburg passed away yesterday. The scientist was 93 years old.
The physicist is famous for the superconductivity theory, which he created together with Lev Landau in 1950. Most of his scientific life was dedicated to superconductivity and superfluidity. Vitaly Ginzburg was famous all around the world – he was a member of several leading scientific societies and academies.
Vitaly Ginzburg was awarded the Nobel prize in physics in 2003 together with Alexei Abrikosov and Antony Leggett from Great Britain. The scientist was the author of more than 400 papers and 10 monographs, covering issues of stellar physics and cosmic rays.
Vitaly Ginzburg will be buried on the Hovodevichye cemetery in Moscow.
