10-ruble banknotes will no longer be issued starting 2010, Georgy Luntovsky, the spokesman for the Bank of Russia said today.
The reason why 10-ruble banknotes are going to fall out of use is that they become ragged very fast, while issuing new ones to replace them is too expensive. Thus, the Bank of Russia plans to introduce 10-ruble coins instead of banknotes, though paper money will still be accepted everywhere until all of them are replaced by coins.
