First automated actinometric station in Russia will start operating at Arkhangelsk department of Hydro-Meteorological Service.
The station will follow the Sun, automatically measuring its light and heat energy, as well as energy, reflected by the ground. After being tested in Arkhangelsk, the “solar robot” will travel to the Arctic.
The robot automatically finds the Sun in the sky, even if the weather is far from perfect for such observations. Such machines are expected to help scientists in observing and predicting global warming and climate changes on our planet.
Soon the robot will also be able to measure solar UV radiation level.
