Rare Snail Species Found in Chelyabinsk
Lymnaea caperata, one of pond snails

A student of Chelyabinsk Pedagogical University recently found a rare species of Lymnaea pond snail in the city of Chelyabinsk.
Biologists were surprised with the finding, since this particular species of pond snails, listed in the local book of rare species, was considered to dwell in very clean environments. However, two snails were found sitting on a piece of plastic in the one of most polluted parts of the Myass river.
Scientists say that these snails do not indicate that the river has recovered from all pollutants, but that we do not know much about these gastropods get used to new conditions of life.
