$10m less for Alfa Bank
31.05.2005 00:00

A legal dispute between Kommersant, Russias daily edition, and Alfa Bank might end tomorrow, reports Kommersant which tries to return $10m out of $11m compensation for tainting the banks reputation.
On July 7, 2004 the newspaper wrongly wrote of queues outside the bank offices. The court then forced Kommersant to pay $11m for damaging the banks name. A writ of appeal, however, brought the paper $10m back earlier in 2005 but this time Alfa Bank seems to be playing games. No one showed up on April 27, 2005 because allegedly Alfa Bank did not get the summons.
Tomorrow, on June 1, 2005 the decision must be taken to settle the dispute.
