Bison Bones Found Near Astrakhan
Bison

St. Petersburg geologists discovered bones of an ancient animal, which were washed out of a riverbank, in the Astrakhan region.

Site of the finding was studied by employees of local museum of history and architecture. Bones were carefully dug out of soil, and researchers were surprised to see almost skeleton of a buffalo.

Geological layers show that the bison lived here about 300 thousand years ago. The creature was a tall one – over 2 meters high, but scientists are not sure about its gender.

Bones require immediate restoration, however, lack of funds doesn’t allow it. Bison bones will be exhibited in the local museum.
