Medieval Town Nerensk Dug Out by Archeologist on Oka River

Finally the legendary ancient town of Nerensk, described by many historians, who pointed at its possible location only approximately, has been found on the boundary of the Serpukhov and Stupino Regions.

Ancient chronicles bear records of this mysteriously lost town. Nerinsk was mentioned in connection with the march of Prince Svyatoslav Olgovich to the north. It was in Nerinsk that Svyatoslav received ambassadors from the Polovtsians. On the basis of this fact historians supposed that Nerinsk was to be looked for to the south of River Oka, near the Polovetskaya Steppe.

It looks like young archeologist Artem Pavlikhin from Serpukhov has contrived to solve the mystery of the town’s location. Podmoklovo Settlement is pride of the Serpukhov Region.

An ancient settlement discovered there occupies more than ten hectares. It is much larger than any other settlement of the area near the Moskva River. In the course of started excavations archeologists have found items associated with the power and trade, and rather expensive decorations of glass.
