China ratifies border treaty
30.05.2005 00:00

All-Chinese Peoples Deputies Session ratified the Russian-Chinese border agreement settling the 40-year long dispute and keeping the status-quo at the same time.
The Chinese Parliament followed their Russian counterparts and backed their leader who, together with Russias president, signed the treaty on October 14, 2004. It deals with less than 2% of the 4,300 km long border.
Some 15,000 cottages as well as the chapel and the water supply intake remain in Russia, so the public and the local population have nothing to fear, although attempts to stage protests have been registered.
Russian authorities insist no concessions have been made.
