The illustrious Russian film director Sergei Solovyov is going to present a new screen version of Leo Tolstoy’s novel Anna Karenina in Saint Petersburg.
The world premiere will take place on the 31st of May in the Mikhailovsky Opera and Ballet Theatre in Arts Square (Ploshchad Iskusstv). The film was shot within just a year and a half, but Sergei Solovyov had worked on its concept for more than ten years.
The film director says he “had no other ambitions besides retelling in the cinema language a true Russian story, neither distorted nor contrived. Illustrations by the greatest Russian artist Mikhail Vrubel to the novel Anna Karenina were of great help in this matter”.
There are around 30 screen versions of the novelAnna Karenina around the world. One of the best Annas was indisputably the Russian actress Tatiana Samoylova.
