GAZ Group replaces Volga Siber with Opel

GAZ Group is set to launch assembly of Opel vehicles in Russia in case it becomes one of the brand's owners. The consortium of Magna International, Sberbank and GAZ Group have made a bid to buy Opel brand, but other 6 bidders including Fiat are not going to give up. GM, the current owner of Opel, is prepared to pass the brand to the prospective buyer provided that it invests 500 million Euros in Opel.

To assemble the new car model, GAZ plans to use the Volga Siber line standing idle due to falling demand. Experts believe, this is a good opportunity for Opel to extend presence on the Russian car market.
