Large Hadron Collider to be Launched in Autumn

Launch of most powerful in the world particle accelerator is scheduled for October 2009, after breakdown maintenance finishes. LHC will reach its design capacity by June 2010.
      Russian physicists from St. Petersburg University coordinate ALICE project - A Large Ion Collider Experiment, aimed at searching for so-called quark-gluon plasma.
      Now ALICE employs over one thousand of scientists form 30 countries since 1992. Russian part consists of 14 research institutes and 3 higher educational institutions.
      St. Petersburg State University now has a computer system for numerical modeling and analysis of ALICE project data and NA61 experiment of CERN.
