An open competition for the best monument to the rock musician Viktor Tsoy (1962-1990), the leader of the Kino band, has been announced in Saint Petersburg.
“I am quite touched and surprised by the fact that they want to set up a monument for my Vit’ka. It seemed to me that after five years he would be forgotten. No, they have not forgotten him. I am grateful to all those who remember him” - the musician’s father Robert Tsoy said.
According to the request of Valentina Tsoy, Viktor’s mother, the sculpture will depict his figure full length, which is one of the requirements of the competition.
The competition’s organizer, Viktor Tsoy Memory Foundation plans to open the monument by 15 August 2010, marking the 20th anniversary since the untimely tragic death of the musician, who is called the last hero of the bygone epoch.
