Archeologists have started examining the ruins of the Entry of Our Lord into Jerusalem Church discovered on April 10 during reparatory works in Veliki Novgorod Kremlin.
Archbishop Vasili Kalika (Basil the Pilgrim), who founded this church in the 14th century, entered it riding a donkey as the symbol of the Lord’s Entry into Jerusalem, the researchers say.
The exposition of the Novgorod State Museum Reserve has kept a white klobouk of the archbishop. The white klobouk of Novgorod archbishops was later adopted by Moscow Metropolitans.
