Norilsk Nickel International has mothballed two nickel-producing enterprises, Black Swan and Lake Johnston, located in Western Australia, the press service of Norilsk Nickel reports. The decision is conditioned by the cost-saving and process optimization program applying to international nickel assets of the company.
The volume of nickel produced by Black Swan and Lake Johnston in 2008 amounted to 25 000 tons.
The two companies are due to cut 330 jobs by March of 2009. That’s not all the staff working for Black Swan and Lake Johnston – some employees will still have to maintain a service at the abandoned facilities.
