Famous Russian astrophysicist, RAS academician Rashid Sunyaev, was recently awarded the International Award of Saudi Arabia King Faisal.
The scientist’s studies became the basis for cosmology and studies of space structure and celestial bodies. His further work was an enormous contribution studies of dynamics of black holes and neutron stars. His fellow researchers believe that Sunyaev’s works were essential for development of X-ray astronomy.
Academician Sunyaev shared the award with eminent British scientist Sir Richard Friend, an expert in semiconductor physics and professor of Cambridge University.
The award consists of the gold medal and $200 thousand, shared between the awardees.
