Toyota Motor plans to “freeze” construction of new plants in Russia and Thailand over the globally decreasing demand for cars, as well as to cut capital costs and production output, reports Reuters with reference to Japanese media.
In December of 2008 Toyota reported it expected a net operating loss at 2008-2009 business year-end due to decline in sales and strengthening the Yen against the US dollar.
First Toyota’s car-making plant in Russia was put in operation on the 21st December of 2007. Encouraged by the growing number of Russian motorists favouring Toyota-made cars, the company eyed building another plant in Russia, though now it has to hold up its plans.
