The exhibition dedicated to Sergei Diaghilev and the 100th anniversary of the famous ballet Russian Seasons arranged by him in Paris will open in Tretyakov Gallery in autumn 2009.
The visitors will see works by Bakst, Benois, Goncharova, Larionova, Roerich, De Chirico and Picasso, sketches of scenery and costumes for the ballets and costumes as such. The organizers promise that the sensation of the exhibition will be a preserved curtain designed by Pablo Picasso for the ballet Parade.
The ballet Russian Seasons were Sergei Diaghilev’s theatrical enterprise that was launched in 1909 and enjoyed tremendous success in Europe, especially in France and Britain, where it generated fashion for everything Russian. Thanks to those stage productions the world ballet stage saw outstanding dancers such as Vatslav Nijinsky, Leonid Myasin, Mikhail Fokine, Serge Lifar, George Balanchine, and others.
