Russian Institute of Space Device Engineering will start mass production of domestic in-car navigation devices in 2009.
Automated workshop will produce about 350-400 thousand cards for “Glospace” navigators per year. Devices will be assembled in Tatarstan, where some components will be produced. Production expansion results from growth in demand for “Glospace” navigators, which are able to receive signals from both navigation systems – “GLONASS” and “GPS”.
“Glospace” devices will also “learn” to work with European positioning system “Galileo”, Chinese “Compass” and Indian regional navigation satellite system. However, this feature requires complete deployment of mentioned systems.
Today GLONASS covers 100% of Russian territories.
