Need a Plant? Voila!

Russian scientists developed a technique for remote biochemical analysis of flora by means of hyper-spectral monitoring.

The technique allows automatic recognition of certain plant species with hyper-spectrometers, located aboard an aircraft.

The device reveals plant composition and helps to find fields of forbidden plants and monitor state of forest. Hyper-spectrometers simultaneously analyze reflected light in all visible light range, infrared and ultra-violet ranges. They “split” reflected light into its spectral components and measure light intensity in every range, which is very narrow. Then computer processes received data.

The device “learns” on standard plants by means of special software. Hyper-spectrometers are able to find objects with desired characteristics.
