Legendary Singer Muslim Magomaev Passes Away

The famous singer Muslim Magomaev has died today, aged 66, after a long and serious illness.
      Muslim Magomaev was born in Baku on 17 August 1942. He gained fame all over the Soviet Union after his performance in the Kremlin Congress Palace at the closing concert of an Azerbaijani art festival in 1962.
      In 1973 at the age of 31 he was conferred the title of the Peoples Artist of the USSR.
      From 1975 to 1989 Magomaev, the founder of the Azerbaijan State Variety Symphonic Orchestra, was its art director and toured a lot around the USSR with it. The singer enjoyed extreme popularity, inalterably gathering full house.
      The concert repertoire of Muslim Magomaev included over 600 songs. The singer is also the author of more than twenty songs and music for films.
      Until recently Muslim Magomaev lived in Moscow.
