Unique Finds Discovered in Solovki Monastery

Scientists of Pomorsky State University and the Russian Academy of Sciences have carried out archeological diggings on islands of the Solovetsky Archipelago.
      The experts discovered ruins of the St. Onuphrius Church coming out from under the ground at the ancient monastery cemetery, to the south of Solovki Monastery. They unearthed the base of the church, located its borders and collected materials necessary for elaborating the project of the church reconstruction.
      Research works were also performed on the flank of Golgotha Hill of Anzer Island. On the territory of Holy Trinity and Golgotha Crucifixion sketes archeologists found articles of monastery household and ancient imperial coins.
      In addition to this archeologists launched excavations in the northern yard of the Monastery itself. Apart from monastery paraphernalia they found cannonballs there.
