FSS to Return Papers to Solzhenitsyn Family

Federal Security Service is going to give Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn’s papers and related documents presently kept in the archives back to his family.

This will happen in December 2008, when the 90th anniversary of the famous writer is celebrated.

KGB arrested Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn’s archive in 1965 and after this the author was not published in the USSR. In 1973 KGB got the manuscript of GULAG Archipelago and then Solzhenitsyn made arrangements for the book to be published in Paris. Publication of GULAG Archipelago abroad brought about the arrest of the writer, his charge of state treason and hid following deportation from the USSR.
