Nicaragua to recognize South Ossetia and Abkhazia independence
Daniel Ortega

Nicaragua would become the first country after Russia to recognize South Ossetia and Abkhazia as independent states.

"Nicaragua recognizes the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia and fully supports the Russian government's position," President Daniel Ortega announced on Tuesday during ceremonies for the 29th anniversary of the founding of the Latin American state's army. Nicaraguan parliament has started preparing all the necessary documentation for an official recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

"World peace is being threatened by hegemonist, rash policies, because the Soviet Union disappeared and they went about promoting the break-up of nations that had a great unity that had been established with great effort," Ortega added.

Despite protest from Western countries, Russia recognized South Ossetia and Abkhazia last week .

Russia expects Belarus and ten more foreign countries to recognize the two countries independence.
