Our Saviour’s Transfiguration Church that once stood in Transfiguration Square, Moscow and was detonated by Soviet authorities in 1964 will be rebuilt afresh.
The building, however, will have to be somewhat shifted from its historic location. The petition on rebuilding the historical church was approved of by Patriarch Alexis II back in 2000.
Our Saviour’s Transfiguration Church was built of stone on the place of the former old church of Transfiguration Regiment. It was not affected by the overall Moscow fire of 1812 and it remained one of the few operating churches under the Soviet regime. The famous preacher and theologian Nicholas (Yarushevich) Metropolitan of Krutitsa and Kolomna used to serve there.
