AirUnion, facing rough time caused by debt claims, finally got a green light to get its planes refueled. Over 1700 passengers had to spend first days of their holidays at Domodedovo airport due to the fuel crisis.
The Russian airline alliance uniting several Russian air carriers owes about $1 billion to jet fuel suppliers, who refused to refuel AirUnion’s planes on Wednesday.
Yesterday the company announced its contactors had agreed to provide 3.6 thousand tons of jet fuel on the security of Rostechnologii. The Russian authorities say the alliance may cease to exist in November, if not declares bankruptcy.
Other Russian air carriers, particularly S7, are ready to take over AirUnions’s share of the market.
