About 15 thousand objects dating back to the Iron Age have been found by archeologists this summer in an ancient settlement within the precincts of Vladivostok city.
The digging site is located in the area of building the bridge to the Russki Island. The bridge over Eastern Bosporus Strait to the Russki Island, where APEC summit is planned to be held in 2012, will stretch from Nazimov Peninsula to the island’s Novosilski Cape.
The scientists have long since known about existence of the ancient settlement at Nazimov Cape, from the mid 20th century, yet active excavations were not carried out here before, since a military unit was located in this area.
The military unit is not there anymore, and archeologists were supposed to collect all the valuable objects as soon as possible and put the site in the builders’ commission.
The scientists say it is the third case in the history of Vladivostok when archeological dig was carried out within the precincts of the city.
