Russian biologists from the Institute of Ecology and Evolution Problems know what factors help animals to choose a mating partner.
Biologists think that not only pheromones (pheromone is a chemical that triggers a natural behavioral response in another member of the same species) are essential for further mating, but also so-called early social experience: memories about mother, father, brothers, sisters and other relatives.
Sexual experience is also an essential factor – experienced animals are more active in studying smells of the opposite sex. Such mechanism is aimed at avoiding mating of different animal species, however, males prefer pheromones of females of other species rather than male ones.
