It sounds strange, but Muscovites have had to observe a list of ridiculous Soviet laws until quite recently. Most of them came into force more than 50 years ago – in 1944-1951.
Last year the Moscow government published a new Administrative Code, containing old and sometimes curious decrees. Under one of the laws teenagers were prohibited from riding tram footboards (such trams are no longer in operation in Moscow). Besides, schoolchildren at the age of 7-14 years old couldn’t go to the cinema, theatre or circus after 6 p.m. on working days, if not accompanied by adults.
The new Administrative Code prohibits teenagers without adults from visiting cinemas, casinos, restaurants, cafes, bars and clubs from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.
