Mice from Soviet Cartoons on New Zeland Coins
The Nutcracker and the Mouse King

All Russian citizens and foreign tourists can buy a remarkable collection of coins called Our Childhood Cartoons. What is interesting, the coins are minted in New Zeeland and are the official means of payment on the Cook Islands, a tiny state in the South Pacific.

The reverse of each coin bears a color shot from one of four famous Soviet cartoons, where mice starred: The Nutcracker and the Mouse King, Leopold the Cat, Thumbelina and The Steadfast Tin Soldier. The Obverse of coins bears the portrait of Elizabeth II, the Queen of the UK.

Each coin is made of 999 pure silver and weighs 31.1 gram. The series includes 10 000 coins. The Coins are sold in kits of 4, shaped as a piece of cheese.
