Russian scientists launched automatic meteorological data registration and transfer from the Antarctic to St. Petersburg.
The sixth continent hosted old Soviet stations, where Russian climatologists installed up-to-date automatic meteo-geo-physical observation equipment. Said devices are a result of joint Russian and Finnish scientific programme.
New stations perform automatic registration of changes in wind speed and direction, atmospheric pressure, air humidity and temperature and surface temperature. Then collected data are transferred to St. Petersburg via satellite communication channel “Iridium”.
