Film and Theatre Star Liya Akhedzhakova Turns 70

Today, July 9, the nationally acclaimed actress Liya Akhedzhakova celebrates her jubilee. The perennial star of Sovremennik Theatre turns 70.
      
      Liya Akhedzhakova has been in filming since 1973. Her debut role in the film Ishchu cheloveka (Looking for a Man) (1973) was praised at the international film festivals in Locarno and Varna. The actress became widely famous due to Eldar Ryazanovs films, among them the roles of Verochka in Sluzhebnyy roman (Office Romance) (1977), Fima in Nebesa obetovannye (Promised Heaven) (1991), Tania in Ironiya sudby (The Irony of Fate) (1975), and others. The actress has appeared in more than 50 films and performed about twenty roles on stage of Sovremennik Theatre, and worked for 16 years in the Young Spectators Theatre.
      
      Liya Akhedzhakova is optimistic about her life. Looking back she says: "Everything I dreamt of has not come true, but things I never even thought about have come out".
