Russian hematologists found out that injections, causing formation of additional stem cells, resulted in serious side effects.
Medics prescribe injections of granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) to healthy people, who are donors of stem cells, or patients, who need additional mature blood cells. Researchers found out that permanent introduction of G-CSF into an organism change functions of many genes, regulating cell division and interactions.
Healthy donors complained about ostealgia, head aches and general fatigability. Medics also registered splenic ruptures, accumulation of hemopoietic cell and other serious troubles.
Laboratory animals showed disappointing results: 22 mice out of 40 died and 8 gained tumors. Scientists detected changes in activity of many genes and found out that stem cells of bone marrow may carry a malignant blood disease.
