Dmitry Nabokov, son of the great writer Vladimir Nabokov has decided to publish the manuscript of his father’s last novel.
The author himself entrusted his heirs with obliterating his final English-language work under the tentative title True Laura.
Vladimir Nabokov did live to see True Laura finished. There are only 50 cards with the writer’s autograph existing. This is the way they are going to be published: without binding, so that the readers could arrange them in their own order.
Just a few people know the content of the novel True Laura. Past the death of Nabokov’s wife Vera, their son Dmitry, a former opera singer and racing driver, is the only keeper of the novel, the manuscript of which is being preserved in a Swiss bank safe.
Nabokov wrote that he had had a dream about this novel, and the book came to be otherworldly, on the verge of life and death.
