Famous Russian Artist Anna Mikhalchuk Goes Missing in Germany

Last Friday the well-known Russian artist Anna Mikhalchuk left her apartment in Germany and nobody has heard from her since then.

According to police data on Good Friday evening the 52 year-old Anna Mikhalchuk left her flat located near Lietzensees in order to go to a shop.

Back in 2003 Anna Mikhalchuke was one of the organizers of the scandalous exhibition under the title Be Cautious, Religion in the Andrei Sakharov Museum and Social Centre.

The exhibition presented over thirty works by artists who had expressed their attitude towards religion and Russian Orthodox Church in quite a peculiar way.

In a few days after the opening of the exhibition several people broke into the museum and battered the exposition throwing blobs of paint at the exhibits. The vandals were not persecuted, whereas the artist was accused of igniting religious enmity, yet in March 2005 the court justified her.
