Melanin Protects Embryos from Gamma Radiation
Melanine granules

Since humanity needs protection from radiation injuries, Russian scientists tested radioprotective properties of melanin.

Laboratory rats once again served human beings – pregnant rats were irradiated during whole gestation period and received purified melanin as potential embryo protector. Said melanin was extracted from black sheep wool. Control rats didn’t receive melanin.

Newborn rats, which mothers received melanin, showed normal psychic and physiological reactions, and their less lucky companions were nervous and weak. Scientists concluded that taking melanin eliminates negative consequences of irradiation and stimulates development.
