Russian state-owned energy giant Gazprom has signed an agreement with Bolivian state petroleum company YPFB giving the Russian company access to the projects on natural gas exploration and production in this South American country. In the framework of the deal Gazprom and YPEB will create a joint venture in which YPEB will have the majority stake.
Gazprom will carry out geological analyses in the Sinchal block, situated in the southern province of Tarija, where 85 percent of Bolivia’s estimated 48 trillion cubic feet of natural gas concentrated.
Gazprom representatives say that the deal does not imply any certain investments to the gas sector of Bolivia by the Russian side and everything will depend of the exploration results. If some gas fields are found, the countries will sign another agreement on joint gas fields` development and exploitation.
