Unusual Space Daphnias on the ISS
Daphnia magna

Scientists received first results of the “Aquarium” experiment, aimed at developing biological life-support systems for interplanetary vehicles and ecosystems for future colonies on distant planets.

Scientists detected delay in hatching time of daphnia’s eggs, but the most interesting fact was that second generation of space daphnias brought male water fleas.

Another task of the experiment is finding out whether Protozoa or small animals could have arrived to the Earth from space. Russian scientists are ready to test how animals survive outer space conditions.
