Russian military aircraft design bureau MiG and the Ministry of Defence of India signed an agreement on upgrade 66 MiG-29 fighters for $1 billion. The new modification of the aircrafts will contain Zhuk-ME radar; at this the operating life will increase from 25 up to 40 years.
About 30% of the budget will be spent on construction of warehouses of spares, a service bureau to mend radars and other facilities necessary to service aircrafts in India.
The talks on the upgrade issue have been held for several years. The successful completion of the contract is a chance for the Russian authorities to win a tender to supply 126 fighters at the cost of $10 billion – this is the largest military tender in the world.
