Russia is seeking ways to rebuild Cyprus unity

Russia has claimed it is to support negotiations on Cyprus unity, one of the states which have disapproved the unilateral Kosovo recognition.

‘We are to back the negotiations(between Cyprus and Turkey) in order to let the sides to agree how to rebuilt Cyprus unity without breaking the UN resolution and to satisfy all sides’ interests’, told Sergey Lavrov, the Russian Foreign Ministry, after the meeting with the Turkish counterpart.

The North Cyprus issue is to be considered by Russia only within solutions approved by the UN Security Council and on the base of every involved side’s agreement.

Cyprus was divided into two parts in 1974 after Turkish military interference.
