Cult Punk Rocker Yegor Letov Dies

Today, on 19th February 2008 the unchallenged leader of the famous punk-rock band Grazhdanskaya Oborona Yegor Letov has passed away, aged 43, in his apartment in his native city of Omsk.

According to the band's drummer Pavel Peretolchin, Yegor died of a heart failure.

Igor (Yegor) Letov was born on September 10, 1964. He started his musical career in the early 1980s and became one of the symbols of punk music on the post-Soviet space.

The last album of Grazhdanskaya Oborona under the title Zachem Snyatsa Sny (What Dreams Are Seen For) was released in 2007. Yegor Letov said in an off-line interview in the end of January 2008 that the last album had taken all his energy and there might be no other albums at all.
