A permanent exhibition consisting of over three thousand toys of the Soviet epoch has been open in the Saint Petersburg Museum of Toys. Many exhibits of the Soviet Toys collection are family relics presented to the museum.
The small space of the museum is not hampering the journey to the realm of Soviet toys which underwent both ups and downs. Thus, the 1950s were peculiar for the great amount of introduced toy materials and new models. The production of toys was scattered all around the country. In Leningrad (Petersburg), for example, rubber toys were made at the Krasny Treugolnik (Red Triangle) plant known as a galoshes manufacturer.
Recent years have seen considerable growth of research interest in Soviet toys. The researchers are especially interested in the formative period of toy industry in the Soviet state.
Museum address: 32, Reki Karpovki Naberezhnaya (Embankment)(near Chkalovskaya metro station), Petersburg. Working hours: from 11 am to 6 pm every day except Monday and the last Tuesday of every month.
